Our goal was to find the minimum amount of walking that could be done to offset the negative health effects of sitting. Specifically, we measured changes in blood sugar levels & blood pressure, 02 important risk factors for heart disease.
We found that 5 minutes of light walking every 1/2 hour was the only strategy that significantly reduced blood sugar levels compared to sitting all full day. Specifically, a 5-minute walk every 1/2 hour reduced postprandial blood sugar by nearly (60) sixty percent.
Our new study mainly focused on taking regular breaks to walk at a light intensity. Some walking strategies as example, 1 minute of light walking every one hour — did not lower blood sugar top levels.
